‘New Name, New You - A T… Talk’ is an experimental monologue that plays with a known Talk’s structure. Ironic and heartwarming, hear compelling storytelling while exploring your full potential.
I met Ara in 2019, when he was recommended to handle social media posting for an upcoming performance I was organizing. Like so many young actors he was trying to be accepted in a performance school and taking every possible job to keep close to theater and pay bills. Upon having dinner together he shared his story: he was raised in a cult, had changed his name, opted out, majored in Social Psychology and in beginning his own life found his true passion. I was moved and inspired and this project began.
I wanted to respect his story, but play with possible formats and all that was around choosing a specific structure. It is never easy to tell your own story, specially if in the years it has become a dinner anectdote. Ara impressed with his candor, generosity, easy going manners and trust. I am really proud of this short monologue: it inspired another project in development (Path TS).
The piece was created for Behold Festival @HUSET KBH, later developed with Assemble Theater Collective, Down the Rabbit Hole Theater and Coping in Copenhagen (CiC) as the show's host @LITERATURHAUS.
The piece's duration is 30' and laguages available are English and Danish.
